ABOUT KATRINA:

Born and raised in the vibrant Chicagoland area, I was an elite gymnast during my formative years, which instilled in me a strong work ethic, discipline, and a competitive spirit. I began my post high school academic journey at Clemson University, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Sports Management. My time at Clemson fueled an already deep interest in both law and sports, which I further pursued during my studies at Chicago-Kent College of Law. I graduated from Chicago-Kent College of Law in May 2012 with a Juris Doctor degree, and successfully passed the Illinois Bar Exam to become a licensed attorney the same year.

My professional career has been diverse, including significant roles in the management, sports and legal fields. Before law school, I served as the Management and Administration Director at TigerPaw Productions at Littlejohn Coliseum from September 2005 to May 2008. In this role, I helped create a website to promote productions, developed a comprehensive marketing program including the design of promotional materials, and supervised a staff of approximately 50 for major events. I also managed operations related to beer and wine sales, handled cash flow, organized staff, facilitated communications, and interviewed potential hires.

During law school, I had the exciting opportunity to work as a Chicago Bulls Beat Reporter, where I interviewed players, wrote game previews and recaps, and covered the Chicago Bulls and other NBA teams. This role allowed me to develop strong communication skills and a deep understanding of the sports industry. As a legal intern for the accomplished Chicagoland sports and entertainment lawyer, Scott Andresen, I further strengthened my legal experience while obtaining hands on experience in the industry.

MY LEGAL JOURNEY

After graduating from Chicago-Kent College of Law, I was admitted to practice law in the State of Illinois and the Federal District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois. I began my legal career at a litigation firm where I focused on antitrust and family law matters for two years. In May 2014, I founded the Law Offices of Katrina M. Barnett, P.C., with a vision to provide expert legal services to those navigating the complex world of sports and entertainment law, real estate matters, contracts, estate planning, and business law.

Since establishing my practice, I have been honored to receive several accolades, including being named an Illinois Rising Star by SuperLawyers and Chicago Magazine, and being recognized as a Top 10 Attorney in Real Estate Law by the Top 100 Attorneys Magazine. These achievements reflect my commitment to excellence and my standing in the legal community.
