Andrea Elizabeth Lum

Andrea Lum, an associate attorney at the Law Offices of A. Marcy Newman, has been an indispensable part of the team since 2009. Her passion for domestic relations began while in law school at Chicago Kent, where she worked in the Family Law Clinic. Ms. Lum also completed a judicial externship with Ret. Judge Leida J. Gonzalez-Santiago, where she observed domestic relations proceedings and gained first-hand experience in litigation. After graduating from law school, Ms. Lum enrolled in the Family Law Master of Laws (LL.M.) program at Chicago Kent. As a part of the program, she took classes taught by leading family law attorneys and completed an externship at a firm specializing in financial evaluations in domestic relations cases.

Ms. Lum excels at the in-depth financial analysis often required in family law, from the calculation of child support and maintenance, to the more complex details of property and business valuation. She works closely with clients to help them analyze financial documents and discover marital and non-marital assets, and designs her litigation strategy and settlement agreements around that information.

Ms. Lum has successfully defended clients against appeals and is well versed in applying her knowledge of domestic relations law to her cases.  In 2020, Ms. Lum was recognized as Rising Start by Super Lawyers, an honor only given to no more than 2.5% of lawyers in Illinois.

Ms. Lum earned her Juris Doctor from Chicago Kent College of Law and was admitted to the Illinois State Bar Association in 2008. She is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and will soon complete a Master of Laws Degree in Family Law at Chicago Kent. Ms. Lum studied Political Science and Spanish at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2004. As an undergraduate she lived for a semester in Madrid, Spain, where she was fully immersed, and became proficient in, the Spanish language.
