John Coughlin Coyne

John C. Coyne is a highly experienced trial attorney who has represented clients in serious injury and wrongful death cases across the United States, including Illinois, New York (all five boroughs of New York City, Long Island and Westchester County), New Jersey, Florida, Ohio, New Mexico, Indiana, Wisconsin and Arizona.  His many cases tried to a jury range in diversity from wrongful death, products liability, medical malpractice, construction negligence, criminal and trucking/transportation to premises liability, employment/professional liability, intentional tort, traumatic brain injury, automobile and civil rights.

Since beginning his career as a trial lawyer as a criminal prosecutor in Chicago, John has focused on perfecting his ability to represent clients in the courtroom. On the plaintiff's side, he has been co-trial counsel in cases, where there was zero offer or a negligible offer to settle, tried to verdicts of well over a million dollars - leading to his recognition as an Illinois Super Lawyer, and as a Top Legal Achiever.  John practiced for several years with the highly-respected Chicago personal injury firm of Motherway & Napleton, and with an established civil litigation firm in New York City before returning to Chicago to start his own firm.  On the defense side, John was elected partner with a 120-attorney top-trial firm after only three years of civil experience.  He was also selected to represent a Fortune 500 company in its catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases throughout the United States. In addition to his state and federal court trial experience, John has represented clients on the appellate level and presented oral argument before courts of appeals numerous times.  John has also lectured before the Chicago Bar Association on how to try a trucking case in Illinois.  He is licensed in Illinois, New York, Arizona and Ohio, as well as the federal district courts in Chicago, New York City (both the Southern and Eastern districts), Cleveland, Hammond, IN and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.  

Prior to beginning his career as a trial lawyer, John taught Logic and Philosophy on the college level for several years.  He has also offered his legal services to four-legged clients, by volunteering on behalf of numerous animal welfare organizations, including the Humane Society of the United States.  Prior to starting law school, John's competitive spirit manifested itself in the boxing ring, where he won the Golden Gloves boxing tournament in the heavyweight division.
