Being indited I can tell you is the one of the worst events that can ever happen in your life . Then you seek answers and in my case I was very confused,did not know who to trust , how this happen ?, you get depressed , your feel a great deal of humiliation and sadness for what this will mean to you...r family , your future. In my case a pretty high profile one so it was in the media . I was broke ! I was appointed a public defender and I understand they have huge work loads and really could not give me the attention I felt was needed. Did I say I was BROKE ?Ok soooo along with that now your scared because no one was listening . The only thing I was told is how many years I was going to prison for , never a your not guilty or even Innocent till proven guilty . After meeting with 3 or 4 other defense lawyers ( well they said they where ) a another lawyer friend referred me to Mr.Cheronis. Damon was the first lawyer that took the time and listened and I mean really listen. He asked questions and did not assume he knew the answers and I must say after the first hour or so ( ohhhh and he listened before I retained him ) I knew that this man was a Defense Attorney and real one ! As the months went by Damon always had my best interest in mind till the very end and still till this day . Damon took the time and explained to me every procedure and helped me make the decisions that was best for my situation. We hired Damon for an appeal for a Federal case. I chose him out of a list of 6 attorneys because I thought he would be the most likely to have open communication. He seemed very down to earth when he was calling me on Sunday evening after hours trying to get me to hire him. After we signed the contr...act and paid him, everything changed. I felt very uncomfortable with the route he took with the appeal, but I was told not to base my thoughts on emotions. Long story short, we lost for all the reasons I was concerned. After we lost, it took Damon a full month to have time to talk to us. We lost the appeal and were out $26K and he didn't have time for a call or an email for a month. Damon told us he still "wanted to help us out" and that he was looking at "other avenues" for appeal. We waited for a few months while he supposedly looked into other options. Apparently, he had ghosted us completely, because he stopped responding to all communication efforts after that 1 zoom call about the lost appeal. We had been waiting FOR NOTHING. In fairness, I told him we didn't have the kind of money we started with and he told me a follow-up appeal wouldn't cost as much since he had all the case info, already. I deeply regret choosing this lawyer.
