When allocating parental responsibilities and parenting time (formerly custody), either during or after a divorce or for unmarried parents, the courts will decide based on the best interests of the child.

Child support is a monetary payment that a noncustodial parent pays toward the living expenses of their children. The amount of child support is based primarily on the noncustodial parent’s net income, although factors such as medical insurance costs, day care and school expenses and living arrangements can be considered.

Divorce, also referred to as “dissolution of marriage”, occurs when a marriage is legally terminated. Illinois law governs all matters concerning divorce, legal separation, parental responsibilities (child custody), parenting time, child support, spousal support, and property division.

Family law addresses all matters related to interpersonal relationships and the law. This includes issues such as divorce, divorce mediation, uncontested divorces, high net worth divorce cases, important issues with child custody and child support, as well as visitation, child removal and relocation, spousal support and division of marital assets.
