completely negligent and unqualified for her job

Beth Tarzia was my lawyer for roughly five months before the day of my trial. Before the trial was scheduled, she held a hearing to try to nullify my confession. Mrs. Tarzia failed to bring up any testimony during this hearing concerning the reasons for why I felt forced into signing a confession. Sh...e did not explain any facts about how I interpreted my Miranda Rights- and how the misunderstanding of those rights would cause me to sign a false statement. She did not bring up anything that had to do with the poor and abusive treatment I received from the detectives and how this treatment led to me signing the confession as well. She also failed to bring into the trial ahead of time any witnesses that knew of important evidence concerning what I was reporting to the police, such as a secondary account on Facebook I did not create. Mrs. Tarzia also refused to subpeona to court a psychiatrist who could have explained to the judge at the hearing- or the trial as well, factual information that had to do with my mental illnesses and how my behavior caused me to sign the confession. Mrs. Tarzia refused to rehearse with me, or give me any guidelines before the trial, and because of her failing to go over with me what to say- I was forced to back out of the trial at the last second. She did not seem to understand exactly what the police report was about to begin with. Mrs. Tarzia knew of my panic I felt before signing the confession, and how I was verbally attacked and felt threatened by the detectives. She refused to bring any of that information up at the hearing. She also knew of how I believed that because the detectives waited until all questioning was over before showing me my rights, that I felt that the rights did not take effect until I got to court. She also knew about the other account on Facebook and a person who could verify they saw it, but did not allow him to come to court. She did not give me any guidelines on how to answer any questions on the stand before my trial was scheduled. I highly discourage anyone from using her as a defender.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
