Brent Schmitz is a Chicago workers’ compensation attorney who focuses on helping injured employees secure the medical care, wage benefits, and long-term protections they are entitled to under Illinois law. He represents workers who have been injured on the job, developed repetitive trauma injuries, or are facing permanent restrictions that prevent them from returning to their prior work.
Brent began working with McHargue & Jones in 2009 as a law clerk while still in school. He joined the firm as an associate in 2011 upon being licensed by the Supreme Court of Illinois. He was sworn-in as an Attorney on November 10, 2011, and took his first workers' compensation case to trial less than a month later, on December 1, 2011. He won.
Brent regularly handles complex workers’ compensation cases involving denied claims, delayed medical treatment, independent medical examinations (IMEs), and disputes over permanent disability and wage differential benefits. He works directly with clients throughout every stage of the claim, from initial filing through hearings and settlement negotiations, with the goal of protecting their income and future medical rights.
As part of McHargue & Jones, LLC, Brent draws on the firm’s more than two decades of experience representing injured workers across Chicago and throughout Illinois. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Association, and he stays current on developments in Illinois workers’ compensation law to better advocate for his clients.
Brent is committed to clear communication and practical guidance, making sure injured workers understand their rights and options before making important decisions about their cases.
Brent received a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a Certificate in Religious Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2008, and received a Juris Doctor from DePaul University in Chicago in 2011.
