Lance D. Northcutt

Lance D. Northcutt joined Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard P.C. in 2020 as a Partner and focuses his practice on catastrophic personal injury, wrongful death, civil rights, and mass tort cases.

Throughout his time with the firm, he has recovered more than $1.1 billion for his clients.

Mr. Northcutt was a lead attorney in a landmark $363 million toxic tort jury verdict for a woman who developed breast cancer following exposure to ethylene oxide emissions from a medical device sterilization plant. The verdict was the largest jury award to an individual plaintiff in Illinois at the time. In 2026, he was part of a trial team that secured a $241 million jury verdict for the family of a man who died while transporting dry ice as a courier, including $49.5 million in compensatory and $191.5 million in punitive damages.

His other significant results include a $79.85 million wrongful death verdict for the family of a 10-year-old girl killed following a Chicago Police pursuit, a $45 million settlement for a young man who suffered a traumatic brain injury following a vehicle pursuit, and a $20 million settlement for a woman struck by a CTA bus.

A former Cook County prosecutor and law enforcement officer, Mr. Northcutt has tried hundreds of cases to verdict and represented clients before appellate courts, including the Illinois Supreme Court. He has also taught trial advocacy, evidence, and legal ethics for 20 years in the United States and Ireland. He teaches at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law and leads its International Comparative Advocacy Program in Dublin.

Mr. Northcutt was appointed to the Illinois Supreme Court Committee on Professional Responsibility in 2022 and previously served on the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism. He has been recognized by Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers, and Law Bulletin Media's Leading Lawyers and received Trial Lawyer Excellence Awards.

A Chicago native, Mr. Northcutt earned his law degree from The John Marshall Law School. He is a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, Illinois State Bar Association, American Association for Justice, American Bar Association, and Chicago Bar Association.
