Biography
Having spent my entire 42-year career in a law firm with a strong and prominent family law department, as well as a boutique commercial litigation group, I have been able to concentrate my practice in both areas. As matrimonial law has become more complex and often involves financial issues similar to what I deal with in the commercial arena, my experience in each area enhances the other. Beermann LLP has many skilled and dedicated attorneys who work with me on cases as needed.
Although I settle the vast majority of my cases (which is my main goal and usually in the client's best interest), I have extensive trial and appellate experience, including approximately 200 appeals in the state and federal appellate courts. Much of my appellate work involves referrals from other attorneys.
My family law practice includes prenuptial agreements and every aspect of parentage (paternity) and divorce, including complex financial cases, child custody and removal, and post-decree. I have represented clients nationwide in family law and other matters on a pro hac vice basis, as well as in international child custody and other family law disputes. In addition to traditional litigation, I represent clients in various Alternate Dispute Resolution Methods, including mediation and Cooperative Law to achieve fair settlements in an amicable and cost-effective way.
I am a Past President of the Appellate Lawyers Association of Illinois and have lectured and published widely on appeals, family law topics, and other legal subjects.
