“Lawyers with good intentions make promises. Lawyers with good character keep them.”
I have worked with lawyers my entire career yielding mixed experiences and opinions. Recently we decided to sell our house in the Chicago area and Melinda Brom was recommended to us as a real estate attorney. Our first offer, well over listed price, on our house fell through ( due to a buyers personal issue ) a month after the signed contract. Melinda quickly secured the earnest money for us, which was a well-received alternative to the sale. We had to restart the entire sale process, a grim feeling at best. The 2nd signed contract involved numerous different buyer requests, so I requested a personal meeting with Melinda. She immediately scheduled a ½ hour meeting for us. That meeting ended up exceeding 2 hours with all my questions and concerns completely addressed to my satisfaction. We were clearly on the same page and more importantly assured our interests were Melinda’s priorities.
The bottom line is this: Good people are hard to find. We all know they are the very foundation of successful operations. Every once in a while a rare and talented person comes along at which someone like you should take a good, hard look. Melinda Brom is that individual. Her professionalism, attention to detail, effective communication skills, creativity, prompt follow-up and organization skills coupled with her legal expertise, allow her to keep things simple and uncomplicated. She is most respected and I highly recommend her.

I'm always wary of people who give all five star reviews, however, Melinda deserves each star. Our lenders were painfully slow to communicate and alarmingly slow with paperwork and underwriting. Melinda kept us on track- and kept me calm!

While in the process of purchasing our home she had vast knowledge and was able to put my concerns at ease by thoroughly explaining the solution(s). She was good at following up on issues that needed to be resolved prior to closing. She was able to easily get us an extension on our closing date due to the delay in the underwriters approving our mortgage loan. At the closing her negotiation skills helped us get our fair share of the closing settlement. She ensured we didn't get stuck with paying a higher tax bill even though the the previous owners tax exemptions still need applied to the property after the closing. Despite the seller's attorney strong aggressive arguments to have us pay the higher bill and have the seller reimburse us, she stuck to her guns. She made sure the seller put the funds up for the higher tax bill in case the seller didn't have the exemption applied correctly. I highly recommend her if you buying or selling a home.

Recently worked with Melinda Brom on a closing and had a terrible experience. She has some of the poorest communication skills I have ever encountered. Disorganized, unresponsive and unprofessional. She is clearly only interested in charging a high fee to do the least amount of sloppy work possible. If I could give her 0 stars I would.

---Very knowlegeable real estate attorney
---Very pleasant to talk with
---Very responsive to whatever situation develops
---Pro-active, not just reactive
Ms. Brom provided excellent, reassuring, and correct legal advice when the buyer's inspection agency damaged my home.
