In 2007, Brett Appelman established Appelman Law LLC with the fundamental goal of safeguarding the rights of individuals accused of crimes. He firmly advocates that every defendant, irrespective of their charges, deserves the most robust legal defense. Brett is extensively involved in managing the firm's most complex cases, ranging from Attempted Murder, Kidnapping, and Aggravated Sexual Assault to individuals facing their fourth, fifth, or even sixth DUI charges. His track record includes successful defenses in a diverse array of cases such as DUI, Aggravated Battery, Solicitation, Attempted Murder, Armed Robbery, Tax Evasion, and Felony Drug Possession and Delivery.
Originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, Brett pursued his undergraduate education at the University of Michigan. His academic journey continued with a Master’s Degree in Forensic Psychology from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice before he pursued law at the University of Wisconsin. Preceding the inception of his firm, Brett commenced his career as an Assistant Public Defender in Kane County, Illinois, handling numerous DUI, Driving While Suspended cases, and various Misdemeanors. During his tenure at Kane County, he also held the role of defense attorney on the board of the Treatment Alternative Court, which specializes in mental health cases.
In 2016, Brett achieved a significant milestone by securing a Not Guilty By Reason Of Insanity verdict in a felony trial. This particular case involved Brett's client facing substantial prison time for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. His success in this trial underscored his prowess in defending clients in high-stakes situations.
