James Cavenagh began his career in 1986, representing hospitals and other health care providers dealing with ERISA, Medicare, and Medicaid issues. Throughout the 1990’s James represented businesses large and small in areas as varied as real estate issues, lien enforcement, landlord-tenant issues, financing, commercial litigation, bankruptcy, and injunction issues. He also has provided to his clients litigation management and consulting services across North America. In 2004, Mr. Cavenagh began to devote the majority of his time to the transactional practice.
Mr. Cavenagh has provided consulting services for commercial real estate concerns, real estate investment companies, and individuals buying, selling, and leasing residential real estate. Mr. Cavenagh is a member of the Illinois Bar Association, Illinois Real Estate Lawyers Association, and the DuPage County Bar Association. Mr. Cavenagh is also a Title Insurance Agent registered with the State of Illinois Department of Financial Institutions.
Mr. Cavenagh has extensive experience in several areas of litigation and alternative dispute resolution and has completed mediation training with the Center For Conflict Resolution in Chicago, Illinois. His practice has covered commercial litigation, bankruptcy litigation, property damage litigation, automobile claims, personal injury and workers compensation defense, premium and adjustment audit disputes, fire and general casualty claims, and insurance coverage disputes. He has represented several financial institutions, insurance companies, and governmental institutions, as well as businesses large and small.
Mr. Cavenagh is licensed to practice before the Illinois Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and is a member of the Federal Trial Bar for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He has practiced in the trial courts all across Illinois, the Appellate Court of Illinois, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the Illinois Industrial Commission. He is a Chair-Qualified Arbitrator for the Cook County Circuit Court Annexed Mandatory Arbitration Program and also is an Arbitrator for the 19th Judicial Circuit Mandatory Arbitration Program and the 19th Judicial Circuit Divorce Court Attorney Fee Arbitration Program in DuPage County. Mr. Cavenagh has taught Business Law at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois and has authored, designed and presented state and federal compliance seminars for in-house staff, bar associations, and continuing professional education providers.
