Thomas A. Vaclavek

My law practice focuses primarily on all aspects of family law and real estate. I have an extensive background handling various other legal matters including traffic and criminal defense, estates and trust, corporate matters, real estate and civil litigation. My practice concentrates on handling a variety of family matters including complex divorce litigation, collaborative law, mediations, difficult custody disputes, support matters, visitation, significant financial estates, removal, domestic violence, maintenance, pre and post nuptial agreements, civil unions and post-decree matters.  I am often appointed by judges to serve as Guardian for the children’s interests in difficult custody disputes as well.

With over 17 years of experience working in McHenry, Kane, DuPage, Cook and Lake Counties, I have the experience and skill required to handle both complex and simple matters. I serve my clients with respect and compassion and aggressively advocate on their behalf to assure they get what they want and deserve. My clients will tell you that I am a fighter and zealously represent them. They will also tell you that I am different from most other attorneys because I get back to them prompltly, keep the in the loop and work with them to get the best results for them and their family. 

I graduated from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2000 and the University of Arizona in 1996. In 2018 I received the Distinguished Service Award by the McHenry County Bar Association in recognition of dedicated service and contribution to the citizens of McHenry County. I was recently honored as one of the 10 Best Family Law Attorneys by The American Institute of Family Law Attorneys for the second time in two years.  This year I was also recognized as one of the 10 Best Real Estate Attorneys by the American Institute of Real Estate Attorneys as well.  I was honored in 2012 as one of the “Best Under 40” by the McHenry County Business Journal and was named Member of the Year in 2009 by the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce. I am proud to be a board member for CASA and am excited to be involved with various other charitable organizations in the area including Big Brothers Big Sisters for six years. I also served as a board member for McHenry County Housing Authority from 2011 to 2017 and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce and was the founding President of the Young Professionals which has produced many leaders in the community since its inception in 2006.  I currently am on the Board of Governors for the McHenry County Bar Association and the finance committee for the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce as well.  I am also a member of the Illinois, McHenry and the Northwest Suburban Bar Associations.
