Ghosted

My case is almost over and Gail has ghosted me. This after postponing or being late for meetings, not following up for several days, and failing to deliver work by her own promised deadlines. Other reviews indicate that this is a trend, I should have paid closer attention before I wasted my money o...n an incomplete case. Wildly unprofessional.

Unprepared "Team"

My dad and I hired Gail to advocate for an OFP. We were on a low money and price seemed right. She showed up to court and pulled out nothing more than an empty yellow note pad. My ex-wife dropped all charges and for some reason we did not pursue a counterattack. We were able to combat allegations dir...ectly that day with perjury. Gail was visibly nervous. I noticed her fidgeting her pen and paper, and I had to speak up for myself on two occasions. The children ended up remaining with the ex-wife and 1 year later CPS had to get involved for their safety. I would not recommend this lawyer for loved ones.

HORRIFIC!!! Worst lawyer I’ve ever had!!!!

Gail was a terrible lawyer. So incredibly unprofessional!! She shared way too much of her personal life, told me about her sexual preferences during meetings, brought her daughter to our meetings and refuses to return my emails and phone calls even though the court order is not signed. We had a case ...in October and it took me multiple months to hear anything back from her and all she had to do was change a time in the order. She finally returned my call and made an excuse she was in the hospital for something that didn’t take three months. She edited the order and then I didn’t hear from her again for a couple months. I needed this order signed to get my three and five year old therapy for abuse they endured and she didn’t and doesn’t care. She has sent the document to be signed to the other party but now is again not returning my emails. This is the worst lawyer experience I’ve ever had and her in professionalism is astounding!! Hopefully court admin can get our judge to make Gail do her job and what I paid her to do.

I am so concerned about your need to post this - I would just like to comment that I, for one, recall that we talked about dating life after divorce and as a single mom, not that I told you about my sexual preferences. And as you know, I make my schedule work for my client and as you were unable to meet until after business hours, I did have to bring my daughter to one of our many meetings, which went ok, but I think we all understand how hard it can be when you are on your own with the children and still have work to do! Nowadays that we are doing online school from home and my office runs nearly completely virtually, this is no longer a problem, and while I didn't understand from you that was a large problem at the time, I hear you now and for that, I apologize.

UNPROFESSIONAL, ILL-PREPARED, INCONSIDERATE, INCOMPETENT

Ms Mattey presents herself as a knowledgeable and successful family attorney, who is passionate about doing her profession well; however, it is not the case, when you hire her. We have hired her for a custody case that she brutally failed to win with her neglectful approach, blasé attitude, and unpro...fessional/unethical behavior. She had caused grave emotional and mental stress both to my child and myself. In sum, her 'professionalism' manifested itself in her constantly and repeatedly being late or leaving for a couple of hours in the middle of the meeting, not preparing or serving documents on time, not answering calls, messages, or emails, showing up ill-prepared, or in sweat pants ... and the list can go on. She always came up with an excuse over and over again. 99% of the work that she was supposed to complete and perform was done by me, not by her. I am not sure how she could get her degree in law. She has jeopardized my child's and my mental and emotional health by neglecting basic communication. At the custody hearing, it was so obvious that she had no idea, what she was presenting to the Judge. SHE LOST my case, trust and our hope in the legal system and justice. She is absolutely unfit to present her clients' best interests, because she doesn't care. Don't hire her or check in with the Bar to check her credentials and success rate in legal presentation.

I'm sorry that you felt the need to post these thoughts. I will simply respond by supplying the text of a letter of recommendation you wrote for me on August 1, 2019, following the conclusion of the second day of your custody trial: "To Whom it May Concern: We approached Gail in October of 2018. Our attorney at the time had taken another position many miles away and was unable to represent us going forward. Our case is extremely complex and the very definition of high-conflict. We also have multiple privacy and safety concerns among other things that make our case an extraordinary challenge. After our previous attorney informed us of her new position and intent to move, we reached out to several lawyers. All were either not accepting new clients, way outside of our budget, or unable to provide a prompt response. After emailing Gail, she responded promptly, was very polite, and very transparent about her experience, fees, and knowledge. We knew immediately after getting off the phone with Gail that we wanted to hire her. We signed our agreement very soon after our phone call. Gail took charge of our case immediately. We had boxes upon boxes of papers from our previous attorney as well as countless electronic files. Though the amount of papers we had were in the thousands, Gail was able to decipher everything in a very short time and able to come up with a plan on how we should continue. I cannot believe that it has only been 9 months since we first met and began working with Gail. We truly feel like she has been a lifelong friend and hope that even when our case is complete that we remain in contact. We have gone from being without an attorney to coming up on our 4th day in court with Gail at our side representing us, and we couldn’t feel more positive about the outcome. As mentioned above, our case is complex. In addition, being able to come as far as we have and prove what we have proven, is extremely difficult to do in Minnesota. Gail did it. Gail’s prices are fair, and for an attorney, very inexpensive. I firmly believe that Gail could charge 3 times what she does, but she doesn’t. Gail truly cares about her clients. Her client’s battles become her battles. Though Gail may not have 25+ years of experience like some attorneys do, we all start somewhere. Furthermore, we have spoken with our fair share of attorneys and Gail has proven herself to be much more ambitious, honest, knowledgeable, affordable, and fair than any other we have encountered in our 4 years of litigating our case. Thank You, ,XX, Client since 2018"
