Fantastic Advocate!

My divorce was final years ago but there were lingering issues with child support as our children are getting older. I wasn't sure I would even need an attorney but I wanted to make sure I was filing the right paperwork and looking out for my best interests. Emily spent extended time with me on the p...hone, making sure she understood my situation. She asked the right questions and provided great information. When we met, she took time to thoroughly explain my options. She even clarified the original agreement that I thought I understood, but alas, was wrong. I left her office and for the first time in this decade long process, I felt confident and empowered by the information and my next steps. She followed up with the order, which I filed and I am now in a much better situation.

Great advocate

I hired Emily for my divorce in July 2017, which was finalized in November 2017. At the outset, I was confident that an agreement I had drafted myself and my ex-husband agreed to was in everyone's best interests. I was very emotional at the time and just wanted the whole process to be over as quickly... as possible, and I didn't realize I was not acting in my own best interests. Emily was persistent in helping me understand my rights so I could make informed, non-emotional decisions. The result was an entirely new detailed agreement that put me in a better position financially but that I feel is fair to my ex-husband as well. Emily gave me the support I needed to stand up for myself and ask for what I deserved. She is also very thorough, organized, and responded quickly and knowledgeably to my many questions throughout the process.

Knowledgeable and empathetic

Emily represented me in a long and difficult divorce. She helped me gain full custody of my daughter in addition to drafting a final order that has many protections in place for the future. We have been in constant contact for over a year and she is always willing to listen and then provide options... for how we can proceed. I know she will tell me the truth about my options and not just what I want to hear. At the same time, she always understood what I was feeling and was compassionate and empathetic. She is a great advocate and is always prepared. I highly recommend her.

Digs in, fierce advocate

Emily represented me to clarify and enforce our final order. She was easy to work with and got back to me quickly with e-mails and calls. Emily dug in when negotiating to reach settlement agreements and was well-prepared and confident in court. She showed grit when presenting our case and didn't b...ack down when she was condescended to by opposing counsel. Her approach is honest, confident, and thorough. Emily was a fierce advocate for me, I highly recommend her and will retain her again.

Relationship: Worked together on matter

"I have known Attorney Wilson ("Emily") since 2008, when we began our legal careers together as law students in New York City. During this time I have had the opportunity to work with her on projects as a law student, and legal matters as a lawyer. Since we are now practicing law in the Madison, Wisconsin area, it is a pleasure to collaborate regularly with Emily and refer family cases her way. Emily is among the most passionate and dedicated lawyers I know. She strives to support social justice in her life and work. This commitment is apparent in her client advocacy, as she skilfully navigates the complex legal system that governs family law, while maintaining focus on the real "human" or vulnerable interests of her clients. Especially in family law, you need a lawyer like Emily with both the sharpness and sensibilities to fully advocate your case, and achieve the justice you deserve. I very highly recommend Emily as your family law attorney."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
