Michael S. Maistelman

Michael S. Maistelman is the managing member and founder of Maistelman & Associates, LLC, a Milwaukee-based law firm focusing on government relations, civil & criminal litigation, municipal law, business law & political law.

Though Maistelman is respected for his work in all his practice areas, he has distinguished himself in the areas of municipal law, government relations, and political law. He has represented and advised some of Wisconsin’s most prominent political figures, including Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, former Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle, Congresswoman Gwen Moore, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, & the City of Milwaukee Common Council & numerous other Federal, state & local elected officials.

In 2021 Maistelman was named a Milwaukee Area Power Broker by the Milwaukee Business Journal. One of only three practicing attorneys to make the list.

In 2012 Maistelman was named one of the 2012 “Leaders in the Law” by the Wisconsin Law Journal. According to the journal, attorneys and judges selected for this designation have demonstrated outstanding leadership, vision, and legal expertise in Wisconsin’s law community.

In 2005, he was named a “Rising Star” by Campaign & Elections Magazine and was referred to as “one of Wisconsin’s most prominent and broadly regarded experts on election law” by John Nichols in The Nation magazine. His work on behalf of Governor Jim Doyle was the subject of a Wall Street Journal op-ed in 2006.

He regularly shares his knowledge as an authoritative source, particularly on campaign finance and election matters, with the national media. Maistelman has appeared in The Chicago Tribune, The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Time Magazine, and Mother Jones.

Maistelman served on the Board of Directors of Milwaukee World Festival, Inc., better known as Summerfest, & currently serves on the the following boards: Taliesin Preservation - Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center, the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, the Milwaukee Public Museum, the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, the Milwaukee Jewish Community Relations Council, the Riverworks Development Corporation, Milwaukee County Sherriff's Citizen Taskforce, and the Democratic Party of Wisconsin Elections Commission.

In 2021 Maistelman was appointed by the Chief Justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court as a Special Investigator for the Office of Lawyer Regulation.

Maistelman earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics from Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of New Hampshire, Concord, NH.
