Michael S. Maistelman

Michael S. Maistelman is the managing member and founder of Maistelman & Associates, LLC, a Milwaukee-based law firm focusing on government relations along with land use and real estate, municipal law, business law and civil litigation.

Though Maistelman is respected for his work in all his practice areas, he has distinguished himself in the area of election law and campaign finance. He has represented some of Wisconsin’s most prominent political figures, including former Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle, U.S. Senator Russell Feingold, Congressman Ron Kind and numerous other Federal and state elected officials. Maistelman’s expertise has aided in his advisory capacity to countless Wisconsin officials across the political spectrum, from governors to local aldermen.

Throughout his legal career, Maistelman has received recognition for his expertise and dedication to the practice of law. 

In 2012 Maistelman was named one of the 2012 “Leaders in the Law” by the Wisconsin Law Journal. According to the journal, attorneys and judges selected for this designation have demonstrated outstanding leadership, vision, and legal expertise in Wisconsin’s law community. 

In 2005, he was named a “Rising Star” by Campaign & Elections Magazine and was referred to as “one of Wisconsin’s most prominent and broadly regarded experts on election law” by John Nichols in The Nation magazine. His work on behalf of Governor Jim Doyle was the subject of a Wall Street Journal op-ed in 2006.

He regularly shares his knowledge as an authoritative source, particularly on campaign finance and election matters, with the national media. Maistelman has appeared in The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Time Magazine, Mother Jones and The National Enquirer. 

Maistelman earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Politics from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY, and a Juris Doctor from the University of New Hampshire, Concord, NH.
