I am dedicated to providing excellent advocacy, problem-solving and mediation to assist clients and their families. My practice includes a wide range of both complex financial and child-related issues, including divorce and domestic partnerships.
I enjoy travel and often combine trips with trainings for mediation and collaborative professionals to various overseas destinations.
My partner and I recently opened the Family Mediation Center (www.familymediationcenter.org) to provide a resource for couples who want joint education and guidance, rather than each hiring a lawyer. We work with lawyer mediators, child/family specialists and financial experts to meet the specific needs of each family.
Practice areas
As a mediator, I am a neutral professional who helps guide couples through the legal process of divorce or separation. I do not represent either party. I offer information and help couples navigate the court forms and financial disclosures as well as assisting them in making informed decisions about the issues they must address in their final agreement. Other professionals such as child specialists or financial experts can be jointly brought into the mediation process if needed.

98% of all divorces resolve by agreement. My focus as a divorce lawyer is to educate and advise clients to assist them in making informed and reasonable decisions and to resolve their legal issues as efficiently as possible. I offer the option of collaborative divorce which requires both parties and their lawyers to commit at the outset to an out-of-court settlement process. More detailed information is available on our website.

Relationship: Opposing Counsel on matter
I have worked with Attorney Hansen for over 30 years, both as opposing counsel in cases and as a collaborative counterpart in collaborative law cases. She has also been a mediator in cases of mine. Sue is sharp as a whip, knowledgeable and decisive. She brings the voice of reason to every case. She is skillful, thoughtful and insightful. She is very aware of the dynamics in every case, and works to bring parties together. She is the “go to” source for family law questions. She is a skilled collaborative lawyer, well versed in assisting parties in making the best decisions in their cases. Sue is a passionate advocate for her clients. She is pleasant to work with and you can trust her word on anything. I hold Attorney Hansen in the highest regard and would recommend her to any client: They could not be in better hands.
