No communication

I wish I could write a good review, however, it appears as though I too have been abandoned on my case. Fortunately, after I never received a receipt for one of my payments to file for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, I thought I should check first before paying the rest of my balance. I received an automated... email response saying I would receive a letter regarding how her medical leave would affect my case. I still have not received that letter, no receipt for the last payment, and she has not called me back after I have tried calling and leaving messages. I have now received a letter from another attorney, acting as a debt collector, threatening a lawsuit. I have given them her information, but worry that the same non-communication treatment I am receiving is exactly what my debt collectors are receiving as well. Honestly, I would be ok to continue with her as my attorney if she could just take one minute to call me and say, "Yes, I am still on your case, just catching up." However, I haven't received this and if she is too busy to handle my case, I would appreciate her suggesting another attorney and refunding my money so I can move on with my case. In keeping with one of the other reviewers, I will be filing a grievance with the state of Wisconsin, in hopes that I will at least receive some kind of news about my case and if I should look for another attorney.

Horrifying experience to say the least.

This was by far the hardest step to take in my life. I filed chapter 13 with Erika about 6 months ago. She has neglected my case and has ignored my every attempt to contact her. Because of her my case has been set in motion for dismissal and I now am in process of hiring yet another attorney to ...take over. I have emailed her called her and nothing. She did not even tell me she was going to be gone on medical. I found out via automated email reply. Then she said she would be back August 5th and my case was had documents due on the 21st. Still nothing, she as back for nearly three weeks and completely screwed me. Now I have to hire a other lawyer for 3500 dollar. Money I don't exactly have being in a bankruptcy case. I mean wow.. I beg of you, choose carefully before walking this way.

non-responsive, untimely, unprofessional

I would not recommend Erika Cannaday. She has not performed to any professional level for me. Erika Cannaday has left me vulnerable and unrepresented in my divorce. After retaining her she was non-responsive during the difficult initial period of my divorce. My estranged wife continues to do many ...questionable and unethical things to harass me in which I am helpless to respond to due to Erika Cannaday's absence to me. Then after becoming available for less than a month in March 2013 she disappeared again for close to 4 months additionally claiming medical issues in her voice mail at her office and that she would contact her clients with active cases via USPS. I did not receive any direct contact, but was CC'd a letter to the judge in my divorce 5 days before my case was to be heard that she would not be available until August 2013. I was likewise not informed of a rescheduling of a review of the initial temporary orders. I had to attend court alone on July 15th and ask for rescheduling due to her absence! In the meantime the temporary orders are highly unsatisfactory and unsustainable by me. I was only able to discuss this with her once and despite several emails and messages left on her answering machine I have never been responded to. None of my contentions or concerns have ever been proposed to my wife's counsel or explored to my knowledge. Further more I believe cumulatively I have seen little or no work on my behalf. As a result of Erika Cannaday's inaction my small business of 8 years is failing due to lack of operating funds. I needed accommodations that allowed for some flexibility in the maintenance /support amount to allow for seasonally predictable fluctuations in my cash flow and profit. These were only hurriedly discussed and never proposed to the opposing counsel. I am thoroughly frustrated at the situation. I believe Erika Cannaday's abandonment of me as a client is unethical. To add more financial pain and anxiety in my circumstance I will be bearing the burden of retaining a new attorney to advocate for me. I am going out of business in part to Erika Cannaday's lack of advocacy. I have tried every possible way to get hold of her including going to her office on a day she claimed to be "in the office" and found no one there. The only recourse I have is to file a complaint with the State of Wisconsin and relay my experience here and in other reviews.

Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community

"I have consulted with Erika on several family law and bankruptcy matters, and I find her advice to be absolutely invaluable. Erika is completely dedicated to being a first rate attorney and it shows. She commands a wealth of knowledge within her practice areas, but most importantly, she possesses excellent judgment and people skills. I would not hesitate in recommending Erika to anybody needing a family law or bankruptcy attorney in southeast Wisconsin."
