I had never been in trouble with the law, so the whole experience of needing a lawyer and possibility of going to court made me anxious and nervous. I have had interactions with many lawyers in the Sioux City area in the past, and my opinion of each of them was far from favorable. Sure, some of them have their positives, but each of them came with a negative; incompetence, arrogance, unreliable, the list goes on. That is not the case with Gretch...en. Gretchen and I first met after a series of very unfortunate events landed me in some trouble. While I did nothing wrong, the type of charge that was placed against me was one that rarely goes well for males, regardless of innocence or guilt. Being the first time I was ever really "in trouble" with the law, I was very nervous, scared, and anxious. After meeting with Gretchen for the first time, those negative feelings were all but nixed. She took the time to not only actively listen to my description of the events that took place, but also helped to ease my fears by explaining to the nth degree what was going to happen at each step along the way. One of the moments that stood out most to me was when I had a question about the charge. Gretchen had the answer for me, but then said "Let me double check on that", then immediately turned around, grabbed the Iowa Law Code book, read the law to me, and then described what it meant to me fully. I was shocked as this was the first time I have EVER seen an attorney reference a law book when a question was risen. I had only ever seen attorneys say "I'll check into that and get back to you", and then never get back to me. When it comes to ease of communicating with Gretchen, I would say she is one of the easiest people to communicate with that I know. Not only does she have a full understanding of her field, but she also has the communication abilities to "dumb it down" so that anyone could understand what is written in the law. In addition to that skill, Gretchen is also very prompt about returning calls and emails. Not once did I have a question for her that wasn't followed up on in 24 hours (including on the weekends), and most within a very short time. All in all, I have had an amazing experience with Gretchen as my attorney. I wouldn't hesitate to refer anyone to her. I know that if there is ever a need for legal advice in my future, Gretchen will be my first phone call. Thank you for all that you do Gretchen. Keep up the great work!
