James Richard Colwell

James is a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is a proud alumnus of The University of Iowa where he received his B.B.A. in Accounting with a minor in Political Science. Following a brief exposure to public accounting, he returned to The University of Iowa where he received his law degree with distinction. In law school, James was the William E. Riley Workers’ Compensation Scholarship recipient based on his knowledge and development of Iowa Workers’ Compensation law.

Upon graduating, James assisted Iowa workers and veterans in obtaining the compensation and benefits that each deserved. James also has experience assisting the insurance industry through defending employers and their respective insurance carriers against claims for policy benefits. James’ long-standing passion and desire to help injured and disabled Iowans led him to the Law Offices of John T. Hemminger. At Hemminger Law, James works tirelessly in assisting Iowans who have been injured or are disabled in obtaining the compensation to which they are entitled.

James and his wife Megan live in Des Moines and in their spare time they enjoy traveling, cooking, cheering on the Hawkeyes, and spending time with their two lovable boys and two pups.
