Mariah Grace McCarthy

Mariah McCarthy is an attorney whose practice includes, family law, general legal matters, guardianships, and conservatorships. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Social Work, magna cum laude, from Minnesota State University before going on to receive her Juris Doctor from Drake University Law School.
While at Drake University Law School, Mariah was actively involved in experiential learning and student leadership. She served as Vice President of the Youth Law Society reflecting her continued interest in advocacy involving children, families, and vulnerable populations. Mariah also participated in the General Civil Clinic, where student attorneys provide free legal services to members of the local community while handling cases under the supervision of a licensed attorney. Following completion of the General Civil Clinic, Mariah was selected to continue in the Advanced General Civil Clinic, where she handled more complex legal matters as a student attorney before graduation.
Mariah brings a distinctive and client-centered perspective to her legal practice through her background in social work. Prior to entering the legal profession, she worked directly with individuals and families navigating complex and emotionally charged circumstances. This experience informs her approach to advocacy and allows her to thoughtfully address issues involving trauma, interpersonal family dynamics, and the factual and contextual considerations relevant to effective legal advocacy particularly in cases involving families, children, and vulnerable adults.
Mariah approaches every case with compassion, professionalism, and respect for her clients’ dignity. She understands that legal issues often arise during some of the most challenging periods of a person’s life and strives to provide clear guidance, responsive communication, and thoughtful advocacy throughout the legal process.
Outside of her practice, Mariah enjoys exploring Iowa’s state parks, spending time outdoors, and finding time to recharge in nature. She values balance, reflection, and lifelong learning principles that inform both her personal life and her work as an attorney.
