Had a disappointing experience with Jacob Van Cleaf that cost me $1400. Communication and diligence left so much to be desired. Very unorganized in every way possible. Without notice he went missing before scheduled meetings. He took my mediation meeting while driving in his car with road noise and u...nable to look at documentation provided by the other side. He missed deadlines along the way that caused excessive delay and a financial penalty I have to pay the court system. Some of the advice I received was extremely inaccurate. I was informed that the mediator of my divorce mediation suggested to the other party that he shouldn't be practicing law based on our session. along with the opposing attorney. They were making fun of my legal representation while I was struggling to get a fair deal. This firm dropped the ball in nearly every way possible. After moving to a new lawyer it has been a night and day difference. Constant communication about what is happening and what I need to be doing. Not disappearing for scheduled meetings. Lots of guidance through the process. The things you should expect of a lawyer.

I came to van cleaf & McCormack with a somewhat complicated family law issue. I was treated like family from the moment I walked in. They answered all my questions without getting annoyed at the number of them. I was communicated with consistently. They even offered a payment plan I could budget for.... My issues were all resolved in a positive way for me. Highly recommend!

I used this law firm after being attacked by a loose dog in my neighborhood. Jacob was incredibly down-to-earth and very easy to work with! I hired Jacob for a custody situation and while he is a nice guy, he wasn't a very affective or assertive attorney. He was easily shut down, pushed around and just really unorganized and seemed lost in trial. He talks a very big game and is great at talking himself up but when it cones down to it, di...d not deliver at all. His office assistant Amelia is super awesome and very efficient and extremely knowledgeable. Office environment is very laid back and informal which was nice but would not present at terribly professional for some people.

I retained this group to assist me in some family law matters, and I could not be more pleased with my choice. Their office is conveniently located in the East Village portion of downtown Des Moines with ample parking and few traffic concerns. The office itself is comfortable and kid friendly. I foun...d the receptionist/legal secretary to be extremely knowledgeable and not condescending at all. I've had the privilege of dealing with both lawyers, and find that they complement each other wonderfully, with an awesome mix of raw facts and soothing humor. Together, this trio has kept me well informed and feeling at ease... all at a very reasonable price. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this firm for any of your legal needs.
