Ms. Baker represented a Wife who was seeking a divorce from her Husband, who resided abroad. The parties had signed a Marital Settlement Agreement many years prior, so Wife simply wanted to finally ob ... tain a divorce. Unfortunately, she was not able to obtain a divorce by publication given that she knew where her Husband resided abroad but he was attempting to evade service. Ms. Baker worked closely with a private process service company to have Husband properly served abroad in compliance with the requisite guidelines. Wife was ultimately granted a divorce based on one-year separation after being able to prove proper service on Husband and he failed to respond.

OUTCOME: Father Awarded Joint Legal Custody and Significant Visitation

Ms. Baker represented a Father in a custody, visitation and child support case in Stafford County Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court. Mother was withholding the parties' minor child from Fat ... her in an effort to gain leverage against Father in the context of the parties' personal relationship as well as financially. Mother made allegations that Father was not fit to have custody or significant visitation with the minor child. Despite the fact that Ms. Baker got involved in the case less than two (2) weeks prior to the final hearing, and did not have the opportunity to conduct discovery in the case due to time limitations, she was able to use much of the discovery documentation requested by Mother's counsel to refute Mother's claims that Father was unfit and impeach Mother's credibility on the stand. With the full support of the court-appointed guardian ad litem, Father was ultimately awarded joint legal custody of and significant and regular unsupervised visitation with the minor child.
