Raised in Northern Michigan and Central Florida, attorney Bridget Brown Powers was graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the top 10 percent of her class with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from UNC’s prestigious School of Journalism, which included instruction in the broadcast, print, and advertising sequences. Ms. Powers also earned an outside concentration in Political Science. While at Carolina, Ms. Powers served as a TV intern at WTVD-11, where she wrote breaking-news stories for live broadcast by the 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. news anchors. Ms. Powers also wrote feature articles that were published in the UNC Men’s basketball programs and served as radio news anchor for the UNC Newsline for broadcast by public radio stations throughout the State of North Carolina. As a member of the National Journalism Honor Society maintaining above a 3.8 grade-point average at the J School, Ms. Powers was selected from the student body to serve as assistant to Charles Gibson of Good Morning America for a live broadcast from the UNC campus.

Attorney Powers matriculated into the Detroit College of Law, now known as Michigan State University College of Law, from which she earned her Juris Doctor Degree. While at DCL, Ms. Powers’ Moot Court Team took first place against Georgetown University in the National Cardozo Moot Court Competition in New York City. She thereafter was selected to serve as the law school’s All-School Competition Director, Director of Competitions, and its Moot Court Program Editor and, consequently, was awarded academic scholarships for her last two years of law school. Ms. Powers served as law clerk intern to then Chief Judge Pro Tem. Marianne O. In her third year, Ms. Powers taught Freshman law students Research, Writing, and Advocacy II and served as Teaching Assistant to Professor Cynthia Starnes, researching and editing articles for law review publication.

Knowledgeable and ethical
I have had the pleasure of serving with Bridget for many years on a volunteer board for a financial institution and know her to be the epitome of professionalism. Bridget is smart, experienced, and highly ethical. So, when I needed legal help navigating a very delicate family matter, I immediately thought of Bridget. Her advice was excellent and the outcome better than I had imagined. I am happy to have an attorney I can trust and who I know would be there for me again, if necessary.

Business Partnership
Ms. Brown Powers reviewed a business partnership offer. She offered advice regarding the terms of the offer, and gave me suggestions for financial information I should request to have reviewed by a CPA. Her response was timely, professional, and extremely helpful.

Consultation Success
I consulted Ms. Powers about a zoning problem. My commercial property's use was said to be non-conforming according to zoning authorities & they were attempting to compel me to stop my efforts to lease the property to a new tenant. Ms. Powers determined that the use could legally be continued as it had not been abandoned according to the law of our state, wrote a letter to the zoning administrator and no action was taken vs.. me. The lease went into effect and remains in effect to my great satisfaction.

Knowledgeable, caring attorney, with the highest ethical standards!
Attorney Powers has assisted me with several legal matters. I live in Cheboygan and travel to Petoskey when I am in need of legal counsel because I have always been treated with kindness and respect. My family lives down state and my parents have a cottage near Burt Lake. We have had numerous issues with this real estate, and Attorney Powers has helped resolve all of them swiftly, and to our satisfaction. She kept us from making ethical and strategic mistakes along the way, and I am thankful for her wise counsel. I have recommended her to several friends and they also hold her in highest regard, and had the same positive results!

Excellent and thorough attorney
I have been opposing counsel to Ms Brown Powers and she was a very thorough and effective advocate for her client, resulting in a published opinion in her client's favor. Afterwards, I referred one of my clients to her for post-appeal assistance. Once again, she did a great job and obtained a favorable result. Ms. Brown Powers is a highly skilled and professional attorney.

Ms. Powers was a very professional attorney who really cared about my situation. She treated me with respect and kept me well informed of my case. She was sharp and yet had a good sense of humor that put me at ease. I highly recommend her for any kind of real estate issue you might have. She was worth every penny!

Inferiority complex which makes her over compensate by acting superior.
Attorney Brown-Powers was hired to guide us through the dissolution of my Mother's Trust. Most of the assets are real estate including a home and businesses. There were 5 beneficiaries and only 3 of the 5 could come to any agreement so it did get messy. Most of our communication with her was via email and it resulted in miscommunication. I feel that she lacked organization with getting so many emails, trying to stay on top of them and it all just became too much for her. She showed her distress in handling the matter by lashing out at me by saying I email her all hours of the day and night including weekends. I say, it doesn't matter when I email you, it's when you choose to read them. She should have only read them during business hours. She was adverse to the idea of letting the co-trustees review drafts of beneficiary communications she prepared because it wasn't something typically done. My sister and I were both co-trustees of the trust. My sister was in charge of the accounting and paying bills and I was assigned to oversee the legal issues. This resulted in Attorney Brown-Powers, with no knowledge of who was taking care of what, insulting my sister by indicating that I seem to completely dominated her. She took information I gave her and dramatically made up a story line on what she thought was going on. Among other things, it included me showing criminal conduct or a complete violation of my fiduciary duties by trying to save the trust money by preparing & recording a warranty deed from the trust to a beneficiary, when it should have been a fiduciary deed. I asked a question about what would happen if one of the beneficiaries was unable to get financing for a commercial property held in trust and she refused to answer me by saying she would address it if it happened. Then when she could take it no more she indicated she no longer had confidence in my role as co-trustee for the trust and gave us an option of either hiring an independent trustee to handle all matters going forward or she would resign. We opted for her resignation. My having worked in a real estate law firm for over 30 years helped me in handling some of the many tasks involved in dissolution of my Mother's Trust. I think because of that, it rubbed her the wrong way and almost immediately we developed a personality conflict. I feel she lacked professionalism in handling this case and would not recommend her to anyone.
