I help consumers deal with matters such as debt collection lawsuits, garnishment objections, credit reporting errors, identity theft issues, and tax problems Before law school, I gained seven years of experience working in the default operations area of several companies. Default operations is a term that generally refers to the various departments that handle accounts which fall behind in payment. I ended up managing all of the default operations for a loan servicing company. Managing default operations meant that I led dozens of employees in departments that included Collections, Loss Mitigation, Bankruptcy, Foreclosure, Skip Tracing, and HUD Insurance Claims. This valuable experience gives me an insider’s understanding of how debt collectors operate and what makes them tick. While in law school, during my first summer I was a law clerk for the Chief Judge of Kent County’s 17th Circuit Court. In the winter/spring of my second year, I clerked for the Michigan Tax Tribunal. During my second summer I became in intern at one of the world’s largest public accounting firms. The clerkships gave me insight into the workings of Michigan’s judicial an administrative courts while the accounting firm internship introduced me to internal operations of mega-sized companies. After law school I worked in the accounting firm's tax area for almost six years, including two years at its National Tax Department in Washington, DC. As an attorney, I did in-depth tax-law research, prepared tax-law memos & briefs, and helped represent taxpayers against the Internal Revenue Service and state tax agencies in administrative courts. I also worked with many highly technical tax matters.
