The Value of Domestic Relations Mediation:

The end of domestic relationships often involves family disputes that are personal and unique to each family.  They also have legal consequences that can be resolved only in a legal setting.  Resolution can only occur in one of two ways.  Either a judge will make decisions for you after considering the testimony of witnesses and other evidence presented at a trial or you and your domestic partner will reach an agreement independent of the court.  There is no thrid way to resolve family disputes.

While it may seem attractive to "tell it to a judge" there are significant drawbacks.  Trials are time consuming.  They are expensive.  But most importantly, in a trial you give up complete control over personal decisions.  A judge decides where your children will live, how they will be supported financially, and who will make major decisions in their lives.   A judge will decide what happens to your property and who will pay your debts.  A judge will decide whether you will have to financially support your spouse.  You will have no control over any of these life changing decisions.

Mediation lets you retain control over all of these very important areas of your life.  In mediation you will have the opportunity to propose, modify and accept real life options that will best resolve the disputes between you and your partner.  Mediation is cost effective.  Mediation is confidential.  Mediation resoves disputes in less time than it takes at trial.
