James R. Duby Jr.

James R. Duby, Jr. is an attorney and founder of the firm DUBY LAW FIRM with its office in East Lansing Michigan.  His primary areas of expertise are trademark, copyright, trade secret, internet and international intellectual property law, domain name disputes, privacy and promotion marketing law, corporate law, business formations and transactions, and secured transactions.

Mr. Duby received his B.S. in Business Administration Cum Laude from Youngstown State University in 1985.  Thereafter he attended the University of Akron School of Law, where he received his law degree, Cum Laude, in 1989.  Prior to and during law school, Mr. Duby worked as a Budget and Cost Accountant for the Western Reserve Care System and as a summer intern in the tax department of Ernst & Young’s Cleveland, Ohio office.

Mr. Duby is a frequent guest speaker at seminars on topics such as copyright, trade name and trademark protection, trade secrets, privacy and corporate and tax law. 

Mr. Duby’s professional affiliations include members with the American Bar Association; the State Bar of Michigan; Business and Intellectual Property, and Computer Law of the State and American Bar. Mr. Duby is a volunteer counselor for Lansing Community College’s Small Business Development and Technology Center.  He is a current member of the Advisory Board of Directors of the Lansing Art Gallery and has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Lansing Advertising Club, as a Team Captain for the Capital Area United Way, and as a member of State Bar of Michigan’s Membership Services Committee, and is a member of the International Trademark Association and the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
