Jessica Sue-Covarrubias Riskey

Some of us are fortunate enough to have a clear vision of what they want to do in life. Jessica Riskey knew from a very young age that being an attorney was what she wanted to do.

Jessica's path to being an attorney was not the traditional one. Graduating from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in January of 2014, she took some time off to focus on her family. Prior to obtaining her license to practice law, Jessica worked for a local attorney.

During the first year of practice, at the urging of her mentor, Jessica sought out to put the work in, to do exactly as her mentor instructed, to learn by doing. Jessica has been able to assist on cases with Caro attorney Greg Bringard, who also took the rookie attorney under his wing and helping her get a significant amount of trial experience during her first year practicing. Sharing an office with her mentor is something that means the world to her, not only does she get to continue to learn and grow but she gets to share a space with her best friends.

Jessica is a member of the Tuscola County Bar Association and serves as their secretary as well as the Huron County Bar Association. Jessica primarily focuses on Criminal Defense and Family Law, but the office she shares will Jill Schmidt is full service, as Jill also focuses on Criminal Defense, in addition to Banktruptcy, Civil Litigation, Estate Planning, and Transactional work like contracts and deed. She practices in Huron and Tuscola County, primarily in the areas of Criminal Defense, Divorce and Custody and Civil Litigation.

Her mentor, Jill, practices law in the areas of Criminal Defense, Civil Litigation, Estate Planning, Bankruptcy and Real Estate Law.

Between Jessica and Jill, they are a full service law office.

In 2018 Jessica was sworn into the State Bar of Michigan, in the Tuscola County Circuit Court, Judge Amy Grace Gierhart presiding, sponsored by her longtime friend and mentor Jill L. Schmidt. Shortly after Jessica opened her practice in the very same office that houses her mentor, Jill Schmidt. Jessica had the privilege of spending years learning from Jill. Not just the ins and outs of the business, but learning the true meaning of advocating for your clients and putting in the work. Jill's advice has been crucial to Jessica's success. Jill has always stressed that the more you do, the more you will know. Jill first came to the area in 1995 and has been practicing in Huron and Tuscola County ever since. Her experience and knowledge of the inner workings of every court within those counties, has been invaluable. Jill's no nonsense approach to working hard and being fair has been something that has help Jessica hit the ground running.
