James Thomas

Jim Thomas and the Law Office of Carol Thomas practice exclusively in the field of Elder Law. This includes current legal documents to protect assets if one is placed in a nursing home, legally reducing expenses, even after being placed in a nursing home, guidance through the Medicaid eligibility and application process, assistance with Veteran's Benefits eligibility and planning with regard to in home care or assisted living facilities and executing estate planning documents (wills/trusts/powers of attorneys).

Jim Thomas is one of only seventeen Certified Elder Law Attorneys by the National Elder Law Foundation in the State of Michigan. Jim has practiced elder law for 7 years and focuses his practice on: Elder Law, Estate Planning, Medicaid Planning, Veterans’ Benefits, Probate and Asset Protection. Jim is a member of the Florida Bar and Michigan Bar Association, including the Elder Law and Disability Rights Section, the Probate and Estate Planning Section and the Taxation Section. Additionally, Jim is a member of ElderCounsel, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the American Bar Association, the Saginaw County Bar Association, is a Partner member of ElderCare Matters Alliance, the National Care Planning Council and is an accredited VA attorney by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Jim also holds a Certificate of Completion in the areas of probate and estate planning issued by the Institue of Continuing Legal Education and the Probate and Estate Planning Section of the State Bar of Michigan. Furthermore, Jim is a member of the Northeastern Michigan Estate Planning Council and was recently elected to the Board of Directors.

Jim Thomas is a graduate of Alma College and received his law degree from Florida State University College of Law. Additionally, Jim received his LL.M. (Masters of Law) in Taxation from the University of Florida Frederic G. Levin College of Law.
