Needs to retire

NOT RECOMMENDED. DOES NOT NEED TO BE IN PRACTICE ANYMORE. Never on time for court, shows up an hour + late every time. Is never prepared. Charges thousands of dollars and does nothing. Never answers calls or texts until the morning of court. Has excuse after excuse for his lack of action on the ca...se. I’ve done everything for myself and even prepared all my own paperwork and documents because Mr. Barker acts like he’s some big shot lawyer who has such a high dismissal rate and is worth $5000+ for a misdemeanor case then charges the same for a felony case? Makes no sense. Embarrassing. He obviously doesn’t realize his brain has gone to the state of early dementia or drug/alcohol abuse. Who knows. I’ve never been so disappointed in a paid lawyer. I’d have been better off with a court appointed attorney at this point, at least I expect them to not do their jobs. DONT HIRE HIM!

Mr. Barker is True warrior

I can't thank enough what mr. Barker did for me and my daughter in an unending case against DHHS and court. It took us over 2.5 years to go back and forth with DHHS and local court but Mr. barker fought tooth and nail for me and my family. When i was frustrated, angry, despaired and ready to give up.... Mr. Barker famous statement " take a bite of the apple at a time" (meaning a little step at a time to get to our goal) got me going. He never quit on us and kept fighting. He even drove 10 hours to represent me deep in to the heart of UP. The DHHS lawyer admitted It was the very first time someone drove that far to represent his client in that court. It provided a strong basis to our case in the eyes of judge. After 2.5 years of battle the court and DHHS finally gave up and i was reunited with my daughter. I was innocent while no one believed me, Mr. Barker did, not only he believed but he went to extremities to support and win my case. I would recommend any one who is looking for a true lawyer who is not just a good at what he does but noble by heart, honest and compassionate. HE WILL GET YOU VICTORY.

Saved Me

My Husband and I have retained Mr. Barker for a family case previously and continuously when a horrible false allegation was placed on me and I ended up with possible felony charges pending. Mr. Barker took it up immediately, relentlessly called daily until given to the prosecutor and once it was, d...issolved it completely! On a Wednesday it was sent to a prosecutor, on Tuesday, it was assigned and on Thursday thrown out. Mr. Barker informed him exactly what he would do at a trial if taken and it was thrown out. Daily Mr. Barker told me to relax, and informed me of any changes. I was an emotional mess even ended up in the ER with an anxiety attack, missed 2 days of work, and was scared to death of being arrested. I have zero criminal history. Thank You Mr. Barker for saving my sanity and name. He is THE BEST!

Best attorney on the planet

Very compassionate down to earth gentleman. Great contact. Excellent explanations and immediate results. One week after retaining Mr. Barker and we see our child after being withheld continuously. Our family is very grateful and we look forward to working with him to finally resolve this on going ...family case.

Turbulent Times

First, after reading Mr. Barkers reviews, I'd like to say one client's review, who chose to remain anonymous (which shows me the lack of conviction possessed in the review), has skewed Mr. Barkers rating. Everyone else, like myself, has been exceptionally pleased with his work. I work in a client fo...cused industry too, there are just some people that no matter what, you can never make happy. Even when you provide them with the best available outcome. When Mr. Barker was handed my case it was the day of court. He was able to leverage his extensive time as an attorney and the personal relationships he's developed from over 30 years of practicing law, to convey the important facts necessary. When our time in court came, all parties were aware, to include the judge and prosecutor of the situation on paper and the actual situation, which we all know can vary greatly. He was able to invoke the compassion of the judge. That day I was treated as a person and not the "next case" in the courtroom thanks to him. The judges demeanor was drastically different towards me then case before and after mine. All was looked at, not just the black and white, but the grey area too. He is now working on my family case, which sparked the original need to hire him. He is thoroughly prepared and is meeting with me again prior to our next hearing. Mr. Barker conveys material facts in a way that expresses there importance and is picking apart the inaccuracies of the other party. This has been a tumultuous time in my life and has placed an immense weight on my shoulders. With my previous lawyer I never slept the entire night before our hearings. I was up preparing the immense amount of supporting facts, evidence and documentation that I knew my lawyer was not equipped with. After working with Mr. Barker and his firm, The first hearing we had was the first time I had slept at all the night prior. When you hire Mr. Barker you get his expertise as well as the expertise and strengths of his colleagues and partners. It's nice to know that his firm realizes individuals strengths and leverages that for individual client needs. There is no arrogance amongst them. If one performs better with a certain judge or in a certain courtroom, That individual will assist in your case as well. Do you want a team on your side or do you want an individual? For the record I tried to save money by going else where when this first started, the price difference wasn't even that significant. I would have saved over 10,000 dollars and most likely many months of my life while dealing with this stressful experience if I had just hired him first. You get what you pay for, and I would consider Attorney Stephen A. Barker a bargain at his rates.
