Jeffrey Walter Burtka

I believe that a lawyer must be both an attorney and a counselor. All lawyers should know the law, but they should also know how to counsel clients and guide them toward making the right decisions. I have been an attorney for more than 10 years, and I understand that clients can be nervous dealing with attorneys. My goal with each client, regardless of their specific legal issue, is to listen and understand their unique goals and to help them understand the law and how it applies to their situation. I opened my own law firm so that I could better serve clients by focusing on the areas of law that most interest me. 

Before opening Burtka Law PLLC, I worked for two years with a healthcare law firm in Farmington Hills. My practice areas included professional licensing defense, Medicare enrollment revocations, business transactions, contracting, employment agreements, reimbursement issues, and regulatory matters. I also spent several years as a prosecutor for the City of Alexandria in Virginia, where I prosecuted a wide variety of criminal cases, including robberies, attempted murders, abductions, child abuse, and domestic violence cases. Before becoming a prosecutor, I had the honor of serving as a law clerk to the judges of the Arlington County Circuit Court in Virginia, and I also was a litigation attorney in a Virginia law firm. 

I hold a Certificate of Completion in the areas of probate and estate planning issued by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education and Probate and Estate Planning Section of the State Bar of Michigan.
