Where do I begin? It has been quite the long journey since I was served divorce papers. I knew needed to hire an attorney, so I did a Google search on “Best Divorce Attorneys in Metro Detroit”, and I came across BEST INTEREST LAW. I read all the (good) reviews and also noticed the high Star rating. ...So blindly going into the process of divorce, I called. I hired family law attorney, Dennis Germain, to represent me in a motion to modify child custody in Macomb County Circuit Court. I hired him after being unsatisfied with the services of my previous divorce attorney. Dennis had a painstaking intake process to collect information and secure supportin...g documentation and witnesses. It took some time for us to be fully prepared to initiate our case, so I had to be patient. But I recognized that this leg work was putting us in the strongest position to achieve our goals. Once we were satisfied with our preparation, Dennis sent initial proposals to my ex-wife and her attorney, of which they rejected outright. In response, Dennis filed a motion to modify custody with a supporting brief and documents, and we went on the attack. We were much more prepared than my ex-wife and her attorney, and we dominated at the referee hearing on my motion to modify custody and parenting time. For every argument that opposing counsel had, Dennis and I had a better counter-argument, along with the supporting documents, corroborating examples, and witnesses on deck. The referee ruled overwhelmingly in my favor. When my ex-wife and her attorney objected to the referee recommendation, we had to go in front of the judge, and we dominated again. Dennis was much more prepared, he knew the law better, he knew the facts better, and his written work product was exceedingly better than our opponent’s. After getting backed into a corner and being repeatedly demoralized in court, my ex-wife had nowhere left to go other than losing to us at trial. She folded and gave in to the custody and parenting time arrangement that I had initially asked for (the one that she had initially rejected), plus I was awarded a few other concessions. I hired attorney, Dennis Germain, to assist me in my custody case. I am a mother of a young daughter. At the outset of my case, my daughter had been residing in Michigan with the family of her paternal father for quite some time, while I had been residing in Indiana. The child’s father and his orig...inal attorney initiated the custody case with a sneak attack. Dennis and I conducted our own private investigations to get every piece of evidence available to support my case. Dennis conducted days of depositions, we gradually dismantled Father’s theories about the case. We caused Father and his witnesses to severely incriminate Father about important facts related to the case, and we shattered the credibility of his witnesses. Dennis engaged in hours of legal research with regard to the complicated aspects of my case. Dennis attacked Father and his attorney procedurally with motion after motion, outsmarting the other side and fighting for every inch to get us in the best position for trial. When Father repeatedly refused to comply with discovery and violated court orders, Dennis was able to get the judge to sanction Father to pay portions of my costs and legal fees. At the start of this case, Father and his attorney treated the case as an easy win for them. However, as the court case went on, and Father was handed one procedural loss after another, his morale began to weaken. At trial Dennis and I appeared with an extensive, organized trial brief, boxes of materials, exhibit binders, deposition transcripts, and demonstrative diagrams outlining our theory of the case. On the day of trial, Father folded and stipulated to 50/50 custody! About a year later, we started the case again, and Dennis and I were back in action. Again, Dennis did a complete analysis and intake regarding all of the factual updates to my case. We went to mediation highly prepared with the goal of persuading the mediator, Father, and his attorney that Father was going to have no chance against us at trial. And that is exactly what happened! Father eventually conceded and signed a consent order in my favor. I was finally able to achieve my ultimate goal of gaining primary physical custody of my daughter in Indiana, particularly during the school year.
