David John Montera

David Montera has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, with a major in Accounting from Wayne State University. He also holds a Jurist Doctor Degree from the Michigan State University School of Law. He is a practicing attorney licensed in Michigan and California. He is admitted to Practice in The Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, the Northern and Central Districts of California, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.

Having practiced Bankruptcy law for the since 2003, David has represented all sides in personal bankruptcy. He has, on a contract basis, been a staff attorney for two Chapter 13 Trustees. He has represented both debtors and creditors in Chapter 7 and 13 cases. He was also involved in the resolutions of claims filed against Kmart, representing Kmart in those claim resolution matters. At that time, the Kmart Bankruptcy filing was the largest retail filing ever made in the United States.

Prior to his bankruptcy practice, David maintained a business practice, including insurance defense. He was General Counsel to a publicly traded corporation while he lived in California. He has tried business and other cases in the U.S. District Courts in the Eastern District of Michigan, the Eastern District of New York, the Northern District of California and the Central Division of California. He has also been involved in litigation in the various circuit courts of Michigan.

David has been teaching for the Becker CPA Review Course since 1990 and is the Lead Instructor for Michigan, and is a Senior Faculty Member of the Becker CPA Review. He has been involved in the final review of lectures prior to release in the program since 1998.

David also has taught at the undergraduate and MBA level for Cleary University in Michigan. He has taught classes in Business Relations and in Analyzing Financial Statements. He has also presented Continuing Education Classes at numerous locations, including the National Association of Black Accountants.
