Melanie Klark Szawara

Melanie grew up in Dexter, Michigan and graduated high school in 1996. She attended Western Michigan University for undergrad (1996-1999), majoring in Political Science-Public Law. Melanie attended law school at Michigan State University (2000-2003).

After Law School graduation and passing the Michigan bar exam, Melanie began practicing law in Grand Rapids at RizzoBryan. For the first 5 years, she practiced in the areas of insurance defense and family law. She developed experience in practicing in numerous counties, courts and judges around the state. This helped her to understand the importance of knowing the judge on the case and fashioning arguments to most benefit her clients in that court.

Recognizing her passion for family law, she sought a position specializing in that practice area when returning to South East Michigan, while working for Harris and Literski (Brighton) from 2008 until 2020. Melanie has devoted her legal practice in the area of Family Law for more than 17 years.

In 2012, she returned to her hometown in Dexter, Michigan to raise her family with her husband. She founded MKS Law in 2021 in Dexter, Michigan, specializing in Family Law.
