Lana Panagoulia graduated cum laude from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, receiving numerous awards, scholarships, book awards and CALI awards, including the 2004 Ford Motor Company Leadership Award, and Women Lawyers Association of Michigan Foundation Award. She served as Vice President of the Student Bar Association and as a member of both law review and moot court, participating nationally. Lana's vice presidency victory created the first all-women law school governing board in the nation.
Lana received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan, and her Master of Arts in Teaching from Wayne State University with a major in French and endorsement in Early Childhood Education . She assisted in the founding of the Institute for the Study of the African American Child (ISAAC) at the College of Education, Wayne State University, and served as Assistant Founding Director to Dr. Janice E. Hale, and Chief Operating Officer. She is a 2008 Associate Fellow of ISAAC. In 2008 Lana was honored by her law school for her work as the Founding Voice for Justice Public Interest Auction Student Chair, and for her leadership in raising funds for student fellowships in the area of public interest.
Lana is admitted to all of the State Courts of Michigan, and the Federal Eastern District of Michigan. She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Federal Bar Association, Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, Michigan Association for Justice, American Bar Association, and Hellenic Bar Association. She is a Pupil of the American Inns of Court, and member of the National Order of Barristers, and Alpha Sigma Nu.
Lana currently serves as Co-Chair of the Family Section of the Washtenaw County Bar Association, Secretary of the Washtenaw County Trial Lawyers Association, Secretary of the Michigan Hellenic American Bar Association, and Board Member of the New Lawyers Customer Advisory Board for the Institute for Continuing Legal Education. Lana frequently provides pro bono family law counseling in private practice and also through the Washenaw County Bar Association and the Women's Center of Southeastern Michigan.
Lana has clerked for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, and for various Judges, including Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Marilyn Kelly and Judges Darlene A. O’Brien, Nancy C. Francis, and Donald E. Shelton.
