Joseph has experience structuring tax and enterprise transactions, including corporate and limited liability company formations (domestic and offshore), acquisitions, dispositions and mergers, buy-sell agreements, partnership agreements, joint ventures, real estate acquisitions, dispositions and tax-deferred exchanges. Joseph has represented clients in complex criminal and civil IRS matters, litigated over 500 civil and probate contests and drafted Offshore/Domestic Asset Protection Trusts for clients. Joseph is the only attorney/CPA in the Detroit area that has been successful in terminating a surviving spouse’ estate claim in Probate Court. Most recently, he has sued and argued at the 2nd highest Court in the Country (6th Circuit Court of Appeals) suing the Dept. of Internal Revenue Service to overturn a past Mayoral Candidate of Detroit’s tax fraud conviction.
He was named as Michigan’s Rising Star for 2008 as named by SuperLawyers™. He serves as the V.P. of the Attorney-CPA Association’s Detroit Chapter. In 2011, Joe authored a best-selling book titled ‘Celebrity Estate Plans Gone Bad – Secrets Every Woman Needs to Prevent Emotional and Financial Turmoil When a Loved One Dies’™.
He is a frequent and featured guest on one of the nation’s top financial New York radio program with Jordan Goodman. Jordan frequently appears on Fox, CNBC, CNN and Fox Business network just to name a few. He is a frequent expert lecturer for Scott Letourneau’s Fast Biz Startup Tool Box for Successful Business Owners, an organization dedicated to helping business owners succeed by showing how to obtain credit in any economy.
Joe has an extensive background in tax and assisting business owners for almost 20 years combined experience. In September 1998 he received his CPA license from the State of Michigan. After working in public accounting for a period of 6 ½ years he attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, MI. He graduated in May 2001 from Cooley’s condensed two-year law program. In addition, in May of 2003 he received his Master’s of Law in Taxation (L.L.M.) from Wayne State University’s Law School.
In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his 2 nieces, Tournament Poker, writing, playing billiards, traveling, reading, and movies. He is in the beginning stages of a Super Secret Script for a book trilogy and movie. Currently reading ‘Trouble in Paradise – A Rachel Knight Story by Marcia Clark’, The Litigators – John Grisham’, ‘The Man Who Loved Books too Much’ [a look into the antique and rare book world], ‘Mistrial’, ‘Circle of Greed’ and ‘Broker, Trader, Lawyer, Spy’, to name a few.
