When our father died the will he left was contested by a family member. With no money for a lawyer my brother and I were forced to go it alone in court. With expertise, in-depth preparation, and the expected professional demeanor, Mr. Hawkins handled our case dealing with a friend who had Alzheimer's and, was terminal, with a significant estate. During the 7 1/2 years we cared for our friend, he offered good advice on handling budget, medical and at...tending care, and made sure we were current on the latest procedures helpful to the patient. When our friend died, Mr. Hawkins gave us good advice on submitting our expenses to the estate and represented us leading up to trial. Our friend's family were named in the will as beneficiaries, but had offered no interest or assistance as their uncle declined. Because we were simply seeking reimbursement for personal expenses incurred during the almost decade period: grocery-shopping, taking care of laundry, hiring home care, and transportation to medical appointments, Mr. Hawkins encouraged us to maintain all records needed for the Court's consideration. Because the family challenged the expenses submitted, we were scheduled for trial. In preparation, Mr. Hawkins, did the necessary legal search for similar cases, made a detailed preparation of all documents that would be of assistance. As expected, he met with the estate's attorney, with the Court in pre-trial and attempted to find compromise and resolution. After numerous meetings, agreement was reached just prior to trial. Years prior to this Mr. Hawkins represented our son when he was dealing with loss of license because of a DUI. What complicated the case is that our son is deaf thus requiring additional efforts to make sure he understood the somewhat overwhelming legal arena.
