Finding a great lawyer is a difficult decision. I hit the jackpot when I found Emily. She represented me in a paternity case in 2019. She was very knowledgeable, gave good advice and kept me informed. I can definitely recommend her.
Emily is an intelligent, kind, and fair lawyer. She had an understanding of how the process worked and was well prepared when interacting with the other party. She was able to get responses from the other party when I could not and was willing to stand up for me when needed. I would recommend her to others going through a difficult divorce.
Emily was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 2015 and began practicing in Fort Wayne. Emily started as a staff attorney for the Department of Child Services before moving to private practice. As an associate attorney at Shilts & Setlak, LLC, Emily centered her practice on family law. These matters included dissolution and post-dissolution matters, paternity, child support, and parenting time. From there, Emily switched gears, digging into estate planning and estate administration. Emily has since returned to family law, ready to assist you in all your domestic relations needs.
Outside of the office, you can find Emily spending time with her family. Emily was born and raised in Fort Wayne, and much of her extended family resides here. She knew she wanted to return to her hometown to practice law and give back to the community that has given her so much. If you catch sight of them, you'll probably see Emily and her husband running after their three young sons and Lab mix.

Truly Amazing
Emily was so understanding and patience with me while helping me though my post - dissolution matter back in 2018-2019. I could not have asked for a better attorney, she gave me great advice and counsel. She is truly passionate about her job and the individuals she represents.

Outstanding Lawyer
Emily is highly professional, and extremely knowledgeable. In addition to those qualities she is kind and compassionate. I do not know how I could have made it through the process of divorce without her by my side.

Empathy lawyer
Have a 45 minutes conversation with Emily. Even though I couldn't hire her for my case (which is what I want to do), Emily shows a deep understanding and empathy for divorce and child custody.
PS: I couldn't hire her because she recommended me to go to court in another state.

So great!
Emily has been amazing. My case is not a normal one and she has gone above and beyond to help me through it. I often have many questions and she's been very patient and helpful during those questions. She's very conscience about making sure we do things with the greatest impact while also being aware of the cost and keeping it as low as she can. I can't recommend her enough!

Amazing Attorney
I had the pleasure of working with Emily while she was employed with the Department of Child Services. She is very knowledgeable and very easy to work with. I always asked a lot of questions and she never seemed bothered to answer them. I also always felt more at ease when she was the attorney with me in the Courtroom. I knew that I could trust her and that she would have my back. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an attorney, especially one who specializes in family law.

Great attorney
Emily Szczepkowski previously worked as an attorney representing the agency at which I am employed. I had the joy of working with her on many cases and it was a blessing. Emily always remained professional and was extremely competent. She made me feel comfortable and was always prepared. I was disappointed to see her leave, but happy because I knew she deserved a job that allows her to do what she does now. I enjoyed working with Emily, and if I ever needed an attorney I would seek her counsel. I would highly recommend Emily as an attorney.

Wonderful Attorney
Emily represented me during my time as an employee for DCS. Emily presented with the utmost professionalism and sensitivity to the needs of myself and the children and family needs. Emily was able to handle the various changes, as well as a very full caseload, while still being able to handle my individual needs. Emily's work, during her time at DCS, was impressive and a breath of fresh air!

Abandoned
Things started off absolutely fantastic between Emily and I. She was kind and informative and I felt a relief having her on my side because I literally had no one to help me fight a narcissist that didn't care about the family he abandoned. But then one wrong, albeit accidental issue in court and she abandoned me at my time of need. I misspoke about something that I truly made a mistake on and explained that thoroughly to her. Everyone involved understood, even the opposing side that it was a mistake but Instead of trying to work with me or trying to understand that I would never purposely jeopardize my own case, she withdrew from my case. No chance to talk to her about it, not even a good luck as she snuck out the back door The horrible thing is that she threw me onto the plate of a completely inexperienced and non-existent attorney that she recommended. My new attorney showed up late to court, blew her breath in exasperation at the judge and doesn't return a single phone call or email. Even though Emily made it sound like she was going to be able to take over for her. Emily abandoned me for all of the wrong reasons. And hurt my family's chances at a better life after being abused by my narcissist ex.

"I endorse this lawyer.
I have been Emily’s supervising senior attorney in the firm. I have been very pleased with her progress thru these last 3 years as she has wholeheartedly adopted my emphasis on standardization of highest quality from all attorneys in the firm. She is very bright and actively seeks answers to issues with which she is unfamiliar. I have received multiple compliments about Emily from other lawyers in the community. Recently, I asked Emily to help members of my church as I was confident in entrusting her with this important effort. Emily has been a great addition to our firm and I look forward to working with her in future years."
"I had the pleasure of working along side Emily for a year and a half at Shilts & Setlak. Emily is knowledgeable, kind, and compassionate. She gives all of her cases the care that she would want someone to give to her, was she in need of a family law attorney. Once a high level of competence is achieved by a lawyer, the thing that sets some above others is their character. Emily is a genuinely good person who wants what is best for her family, friends, and clients. I am honored to call her my friend."
