James Walter Hortsman

James W. Hortsman is the founding partner of James W. Hortsman Law Group, LLC, focusing primarily on general corporate matters including transactional, corporate governance and asset planning, estate planning, and family law matters. Mr. Hortsman has represented and served as outside general counsel and trusted business advisor to companies across multiple industries. Those clients include domestic and international construction firms, logistic suppliers, breweries, technology firms, farms, and manufacturers.

As the founder, James works closely with clients' legal and operational teams to devise and implement litigation avoidance strategies and provides counsel on operational, regulatory and compliance matters. He previously served as General Counsel to a privately-held Chicago-based engineering and construction company and understands the importance of having a deep and practical understanding of clients' business operations and strategic goals.

He utilizes a number of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to resolve legal disputes and takes a practical and holistic approach to solve clients' problems. James chose the legal profession as a way to devote his time and skills to assist others to realize their business and personal dreams.
