Complete lack of legal representation

Cara was court appointed to my Chins Appeal case. Upon learning this I immediately reached out to her and let her know I am available to discuss the case anytime and asked if she needed anything from me. I, mistakenly, assumed she would speak to me at least once before filing the appeal brief but she... made no attempt to discuss anything with me. The only contact I recieved was her notification that she filed the appeal already. I immediately informed her that I wish she would've contacted me first as there was much about the case that I wished to bring to attention such as evidence supression, jurisdictional issues, false statements, falsified documents, etc. Again, she made no attempt to speak with me. I was accused of "destroying evidence" even though I had and still have the evidence as well as evidence regarding many other claims made about me. She ignored me and went through the entire appeal process without ever contacting me or providing any substantial legal representation. Basically, she filed a generic appeal with no input from me nor with any of the supporting information I had. I assumed the appeal would be an easy win but I lost because there was nothing put into the appeal other than the false statements, falsified documents and other nonsense that DCS and accompanying attorneys had submitted. Mind you, I have video evidence proving most of the false statements, I had the evidence they claimed I destroyed, jurisdiction was illegally established as this was all done in a different county than my custody case, in contradiction to established case law the mothers statements were the only statements used, among many other issues that were never addressed. Without all those issues, which violate multiple laws as well as my rights, there was zero evidence that my child was harmed nor met any of the requirements for a Chins case. Even worse, due to the lack of communication it was assumed that I wasn't appealing certain parts of the case that I definitely did disagree with but was never mentioned as Cara did not bother to speak with me one time prior to filing the appeal brief on my behalf. I feel like Cara completely set me up for failure and that she provided zero actual legal representation. I could've Googled a basic appeal brief and filed it myself and it would have been the same as what Cara did for me. I'm unsure why attorneys take cases like this if they aren't going to actually put any effort into it. Maybe she's a good attorney if you hire her and she's getting paid but for anyone she is court appointed to represent it is very clear she doesn't care at all and she will 100% set you up for failure to avoid wasting her precious time.

Appeals can be frustrating for clients because the process does not allow for anything outside the four corners of the record to be brought into the appeal. So appellate attorneys are stuck working with the facts and evidence that were presented below. Also, only issues that were raised below and preserved for the appeal can be raised. I communicated with you throughout the appeal. I sent you an introductory letter with a copy of the notice of appeal, as well as a letter with my appellate brief, a letter with the opposing counsel's appellate brief, and a letter with the decision from the Court of Appeals, along with information on next steps. This is my customary practice for all appellate clients. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

Passionate and professional about clients

Cara was referred to me from another attorney who felt I needed more expertise in the area I was looking for. That attorney could not have found a better advocate for my case than Cara. Cara is compassionate and approached my case with tenacity. She saw the issue clearly and had a resolution pa...th immediately in mind after I forwarded her documents I needed help on. Cara was timely on her responses back to me and because she took care of it quickly, she did not ask for any compensation. But I was more than willing to supply her anything that she felt was due. True professional who wants to help people, not help her bottom line. I highly recommend Cara
