A bit careless for my taste....

I used Megan - on a recommendation - for both a sale and purchase of property, as well as a proposed purchase of a property. I'll try to be as specific as I can without rambling: Regarding the Sale: - Sent a draft contract to the buyers without first reviewing it with us and explaining and/or se...eking input from us on contingencies - Draft contracts often had misspellings and/or outright erroneous names, addresses, etc. - When she e-mailed our final executed contract, she actually attached another client's contract. Makes me wonder if MY contract was sent in error to another of her clients. - I specifically asked a few days before the closing date for closing amounts when they were available. 5:00 pm the day before the closing I asked her again and received them and found out they were sent to the other parties much earlier in the day. There were various things that she should have pro-actively explained up front. For example, my mortgage payoff and interest due amount was as of 3 days after the closing. Apparently this is common practice as the lender allows extra time in case there is a problem receiving payment and then refunds the difference. Fine, but she should have explained this up front, as opposed to me noticing this and asking about it 10:00 pm the night before the closing. In addition, the tax adjustment due me was outright understated - albeit by a small amount - because she misread a document. Regarding the Purchase - which was actually some time before the sale: I was initially somewhat satisfied, but when I moved into the building I found out the central air was decommissioned and I would have to purchase a window unit. Not really too big a deal until I found much later there were several discussions about this in the Board minutes which she stated she reviewed as part of her due diligence. Am I wrong in thinking this was something that should have been pointed out to me?

Best in the Business

I worked with Megan twice this past year. She was the attorney for the sale of my Condo in Brooklyn and again for the purchase of my next Condo. Megan is an experienced professional who knows the business inside out. She is very responsive, offers great advice, and makes the process as easy as possib...le. I highly recommend working with Megan for your next real estate transaction.

Two Stars

A family member recommended Megan Clinton to us for our co-op purchase. She started off by suggesting an excellent real estate agent to us. We thought we were in good hands. Unfortunately we had a difficult experience with her one we moved beyond the initial contract negotiations. She did not communi...cate well with us, often going weeks without responding to emails. We typically had to remind her multiple times to deal with various queries, issues, and requests. What started as an annoyance became a serious problem when she did not respond to repeated (at least 6) requests to tell us what form of payment would be required for our closing. This query was important because we had to transfer funds around to make payment and this takes some time to do (as we told her). She only informed us of the required check format less than 24 hours before our closing, which put us into a very difficult bind. This issue was particularly challenging for me as I was undergoing treatment for a chronic medical condition. I had to forgo planned treatment in order to resolve the mess that she created. She never apologized for this error. We also did not feel that this attorney looked out for our interests in a consistent manner. She pushed our closing date well-beyond what we said we were comfortable with (we had to extend our mortgage agreement in order to meet it). She also did not advise us about protecting our rights when the sellers left damages, as well as furniture and garbage behind in our apartment after they moved out. Our real estate agent advised us in her place. While we were still negotiating payments for damages and items left behind, this attorney authorized the seller's attorney to return escrow to the previous owners. This error created unnecessary headaches for us and we narrowly avoided having to take them to small claims court in order to claim the funds owed to us. In sum: while we appreciated this attorney's recommendation of a truly excellent real estate agent, she herself created a great deal of anxiety and wasted time for us. Most especially, we would not recommend her to first-time buyers, like us, who would like to feel that they have someone looking out for their interests and who can communicate well with their clients.
