Mackenzie Leigh Crooks

My passion for Family Law stems from a desire to help families navigate the legal system with confidence and find the best possible outcome for themselves and their children. Throughout my legal education, I was drawn to the complexities and nuances of Family Law cases and knew that this was the area in which I wanted to focus my career.

Before beginning my legal career, I spent six years teaching, which sharpened my communication skills and gave me the skills needed to effectively convey complex legal concepts to clients in a way that is easy to understand. I believe that my background in education has prepared me well for a career in Family Law, as I am used to working with families and children in high-pressure situations.

Additionally, I hold a degree in Psychology, which has given me invaluable insight into the complex emotions and motivations that drive individuals in Family Law cases. I understand the importance of being patient and compassionate during what can be an emotional and stressful time for families. During law school, I was fortunate enough to be awarded a Mental Health Law Fellowship, which has given me a deep understanding of the legal and ethical issues surrounding mental health crises, which families often deal with during a divorce, child custody dispute, or any other family law issue.

As a child of a contentious divorce, I understand firsthand the emotional toll that Family Law disputes can have on children and families. Growing up with brothers on the autism spectrum has also given me a profound appreciation for the importance of empathy in navigating complex family dynamics and of accommodating individuals with disabilities.

I place a strong emphasis on settling disputes outside of the courtroom whenever possible. Amicable resolutions reached through mediation or negotiation are often in the best interests of all parties involved and can help minimize the emotional and financial costs of legal proceedings. However, I understand that avoiding litigation is not always possible. Whether it is negotiating a settlement or representing them in court, I am dedicated to achieving the best possible outcome for my clients.

I live in Madisonville with my partner and our two rescue dogs, who have brought so much joy and love into my life. They remind me every day of the importance of compassion and empathy, both in our personal relationships and in our professional endeavors. In my free time, I like to keep my mind sharp by doing crossword puzzles and challenging myself in the kitchen with new recipes.
