About Matthew

Learn Matthew’s areas of practice.

Matthew Curran is a partner at Robbins, Kelly, Patterson & Tucker and a member of the firm’s litigation practice group. His wide-ranging litigation practice includes commercial, civil, and probate litigation. He also provides advice to clients on general business matters.

Matt litigates cases involving contracts such as partnership and business ownership agreements, operating agreements, franchise agreements, and other matters including leases, supplier and vendor contracts, severance agreements, service agreements, and construction contracts. He also has experience litigating cases involving property damage, premises liability, commercial collection, foreclosures, evictions, trespass, defamation, fraud, negligence, professional malpractice, probate, bankruptcy, and personal injury claims.

Matt regularly counsels business owners on a variety of subjects including risk assessment, risk mitigation, dispute resolution, and issues surrounding non-compete agreements. As part of his practice, he negotiates private shareholder disputes and drafts leases and other agreements.

Previously in his career, Matt served as an in-house attorney in the global litigation group of a multinational corporation with retail, wholesale, and manufacturing divisions. This experience enables Matt to give practical advice and helps Matt see matters from a client’s perspective. Matt started his career in the Cincinnati office of a large law firm practicing complex commercial litigation.

Before law school, he worked in Chicago for an international marketing and public relations firm. As part of his duties, he acted as a national spokesperson for a telecommunications company that was a major sponsor of the National Football League. In that role, he traveled the country attending Monday Night Football games as part of a publicity tour, hosting ticket giveaways, autograph signings with NFL Hall of Fame players, and giving promotional interviews on local and national television and radio.

A Cincinnati native, he returned to the city and currently resides in Oakley with his wife, son, and the family beagle, Pudge.

The Best Of The Best
Our small business needed an Ohio lawyer after a frivolous lawsuit was filed against us. Avvo allowed us to pin-point precisely the types of attorneys we needed. Matt was the first person we contacted, and he replied within a few hours. In our initial phone consultation with Matt, we immediately felt at ease. His knowledge, experience, and attention to detail were clear; but most importantly was the even-keel yet analytical approach he inherently possesses. When dealing with lawsuits, you need both a smart attorney and a calm-headed attorney, yet one with an aggressive sensibility. Matt struck the balance for us in this regard, and we felt lucky to have found him. While working through our case, Matt was one-step-ahead at every turn; and rather than telling us what we should do, he advised us. His prompt communication was something we highly valued, as this is a rarity in the legal world. His attention to detail and willingness to revise was tremendously appreciated, making a most-unpleasant experience such as a frivolous lawsuit bearable. We could not be happier with the quality of work, the resolution reached, and the value Matt provided.

There is really only one word I can use to describe the services we received from Matt and that word is awesome. He was able to put us at ease about the process we were going through. He explained everything in terms we could understand. Because of the effort Matt put into this case we were able to move forward with our dream of becoming business owners.

Relationship: Worked together on matter
"Matt and I are both fellows of Class XII of the Cincinnati Academy of Leadership for Lawyers. I got to know him through this program and have worked together with him on a case where he obtained a judgment on a non-compete for a business client. This judgment proved very helpful in getting a recovery for that same client as a creditor when the offending party filed bankruptcy. Matt is an excellent attorney and colleague. I endorse him without reservation."
