I am committed to providing individuals with high quality legal representation. I am licensed to practice in the State of Ohio (2005) and federal United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio (2008) and the Southern District of Ohio (2011).
In 2000, I was appointed by U.S. Congressman Michael Oxley to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point. After attendance, I instead chose to complete my undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University (2002). I earned a Bachelor of Arts, English, Magna Cum Laude in only two years. I then attended law school at the University of Akron with a full tuition scholarship and earned my Juris Doctorate in the top third of my class (2005). I passed the bar examination and was licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio in 2005.
From 2005-2008, I prosecuted adult felonies for three years as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in the Richland County Prosecutor's Office. From 2008-2014, I then engaged in the private practice of law for six years with Baran, Piper, Tarkowsky & Fitzgerald, Co., LPA. From 2014-2015, I was the Human Resources Director for the Kokosing Construction Company based in Fredericktown, Ohio before founding Attorney Boyd Law Office, Ltd. in May, 2015.
I have tried approximately twenty (20) adult felony criminal jury trials, with experience both as a prosecuting and defense attorney. I achieved a notable defense jury acquittal of a client charged with F-1 Rape in Richland County Case No. 2010-CR-749. I also achieved a defense appellate decision in the Fifth District Court of Appeals for a prison inmate convicted of F-1 sex offenses with sexually violent predator specifications in Case No. 2009-CA-86. I work hard to defend the rights of the accused.
In federal court, I successfully represented plaintiffs in cases arising under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and private disability insurance arising under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA). I also successfully defended debtors in bankruptcy cases against creditors who opposed the debtors' proper petitions to discharge their debts.
I am an active member of my church, Ontario Christian Fellowship in Ontario, Ohio. I am a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Richland County Bar Association. In my free time, I enjoy roasting coffee, piloting radio controlled helicopters, and spending time with my family. Thank you for taking the time to learn about me; I look forward to getting to know you, to learn about your circumstances, and to help you achieve a favorable legal result.

Relationship: Opposing Counsel on matter
John was always good to work with when I was with the Richland County Prosecutor's Office. He fought hard for his clients, but did it without making matters personal. That professionalism is important when dealing with the most important legal matters. I happily endorse this attorney.
