I was in a toxic romantic relationship that was ...not healthy. Our relationship did not work out, even though we had we had our dream of conceiving and had a child on the way. It was late in life to start a family and we let our last chance dream of a child irrationally influence our desire to have a baby despite our unhealthy relationship. Our relationship was doomed, and my wife/girlfriend left me to have our child in another state. We were not communicating due to the extent of our unhealthy relationship and so I was not able to see my son born. I was paying child support and I was communicating with them for a period until she got upset with me and would not let me see or interact with my son. It was very difficult for me. I was an out of state father, paying child support, and I did not have legal parenting rights so there was nothing I could do to see my child. Paying child support is essential but does not provide any legal right to parenting time or visitation with your child. It was a devastating reality, because I loved my child and wanted nothing more than to provide him with a healthy father son relationship. Out of nowhere my wife handed me dissolution papers. She had been dealing with a lawyer and was wanting me to sign the papers. I needed a lawyer fast, so I contacted Melissa’s firm. They did an over the phone consultation (covid restrictions were in effect at the time). They listened to my story and ...said they could help.
