Shimko lied and obtained money by deception from me

I hired Shimko to represent me against a toy company for breach of contract. I traveled from London, England, to Athens, Greece, where he was meeting with another client, to discuss my case with him [he'd originally insisted that I should pay for him to travel to the UK.] After learning about my case..., he said I had a reasonable chance of success and accepted to litigate the case. Three or so years later, I complained why he'd done noting to advance the case. He then instructed my to travel to the US East Coast to meet with his assistant and the toy company's lawyers. His assistant took me to an office in a rundown building in the city, where we met with a shady character introduced to me as "the defendant's" lawyer. Our "fact-finding" meeting took less than five minutes. Meanwhile, Shimko asked me to pay him $10,000, as we had agreed, which I did. A week or so after the "fact-finding" meeting he called me to say he didn't think I had any chance of success. This is a historic case which happened between 1997 - 2002. I'd intended to chalk it up to experience.

Problematic

Working with Tim Shimko was problematic and unpleasant at best. Not only did he share confidential information with the opposing counsel when asked not to do so, he didn't follow through with details, as he agreed to. He was unnecessarily belligerent and arrogant in his dealings with everyone- from... opposing counsel to his client. And sadly, his strategies seemed flawed with less than successful results. I could not recommend him in good conscience. There are smarter, more effective and easier to deal with attorneys out there. A person going through litigation shouldn't be googling "anger disorders" in an attempt to understand their own attorney!

Beware!

Used this "lawyer" on a commercial case years ago. Instantly shuffled it off to associate, who was competent. Associate left for greener pastures & the case was run by a paralegal. Was very unresponsive & just wanted his check so he lost interest & lowballed a settlement with a million excuses to acc...ept. By then I was sick of excuses & condescending tone. The biggest laugh was when I got his itemized settlement expenses where he billed me for a $50+ lunch. Wow, hang on to your wallet.

Not a good choice

Interacting with Mr. Shimko was absolutely horrible and I would advise any future clients to stay as far away as possible. He was recently sanctioned by the Ohio Supreme Court and it is a good thing. He did not follow through with what he said he would do in the discovery phase and refused to retu...rn my file at the end. He has a bad temper and turned it on me unnecessarily.
