Just explain the situation and bring the documents. They may be okay with it, but if not, they’ll issue a request for evidence (I-72).

Did you travel then? If not, then no need. If yes, and you came back within 6 months anyway, then you should be fine too.

Had it both ways before. Some would admin close or RFE it until you get the waiver, so you just submit the approval. I used to do that before until...
