Mr. Long has earned a reputation as a fierce and loyal advocate for his clients in all case types. Prior to joining Friedman & Nemecek, L.L.C., Mr. Long served clients in varying criminal matters as well as in commercial, employment, civil rights, education, personal injury, product liability and construction litigation cases.
This diverse practice has lent itself well to his current practice which consists mostly of criminal defense. However clients will often present with complex cases that involve civil or administrative aspects that are “quasi-criminal” in nature.
Mr. Long brings his wealth of legal knowledge as a dynamic not routinely seen in criminal defense firms. For instance, Mr. Long us a respected Title IX attorney, representing college students accused of sexual misconduct. The nature of the allegations often intersect with possible criminal charges that must be carefully handled to ensure that the client can avoid criminal liability while still participating in the educational disciplinary process. Mr. Long’s experience within these different realms is an extraordinary benefit to the his clients.
Mr. Long’s criminal practice includes municipal, state, and federal representation of clients at all stages of litigation, from pre-indictment investigations to post-conviction work. While licensed in Ohio and Illinois, Mr. Long will accompany his clients to courts and hearings across the United States. Approximately half of the clients in need of Friedman & Nemecek, L.L.C.’s assistance are located outside Ohio.
Mr. Long remains firmly committed to public service within the legal and general communities-at-large. In 2016, he accepted an invitation to join The Judge John M. Manos Inn of Court as an Associate. A year earlier, he was also the recipient of the Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Service from the Judges of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the Chicago Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. He is an active member of the American Bar Association, Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Ohio State Bar Association, and Chicago Bar Association. He also lectures to local attorneys on topics related to Cyber Security, technology, and modern case investigative techniques. Mr. Long recently named in The National Trial Lawyer: Top 100 list for 2018.
