Unfortunately, many police are rude most of the time. It is worth the bother to complain and dispute the charge.

In Ohio, it depends in part on the amount of the checks. Because there are so many checks, there is probably a very good chance of going to prison.

Once you tell the police about it, you can't stop them from acting on the information you give them. The person that hit you might get in trouble.

Provided the newspaper story was true, based on what was known at the time, you would have a hard time forcing the story off the pages.
